The Five-card draw is the bst known type of poker and also the first that newbie will usually learn. It is also known as Draw Poker and it’s often played in house gaming, but very rare in casinos. The rules aren’t hard to learn and it’s probably the simpliest form of poker.
Usually it’s played by five players and at the beginning of every game, they receives five face-down cards. In casinos, the first betting round starts from the player to the left of the big blind. In house gaming it’s typical to use an “ante” and the first bet is for the player to the left of the dealer (the second round will start with the player who openend the first).
After the first round of betting, the players can choose what cards to throw away to get others of them (this phase is called “draw”). In house gaming it’s usually possible to throw away all the cards, but in casinos the players who want to throw away all of his cards can’t do this at the same time (it means, that if “player A” wants to change all the cards, the dealer will first give him four cards, than the other cards to “player B, C…” and finally the last card to “player A”).
Later, after the “draw”, players will bet again and if there are more than one player still in the game, there will be a showdown. The player with the best hand (following the normal poker’s hand ranks) will win the pot.
For the Five-card draw is usually used a stripped deck (a deck from which some cards have been removed). If the players are less then five, a deck with rankings from ace to seven (and without jokers, of course) is used. But if there are five players, then it will be used the sixes, also. It’s called “ace-to-seven“.
